Trail Days are a celebration of the Midwest Spirit of Place at Powell Gardens, through engaging with, educating about, and exploring the natural communities of the region such as prairies, woodlands, and wetlands. Powell Gardens provides an invitation to the community to explore the best kept secret of Kansas City’s botanical garden, the Byron Shutz Nature Trail System. This system, comprised of the one-mile Family Discovery Loop and 3.25 mile Prairie Ridge Trail, support regionally distinct and rare ecological communities, unique off-grid experiences, and noteworthy distance. Powell Gardens will highlight certain themes during each of the trail day events. Powell Gardens celebrates National Prairie Day and National Trails Day on June 3 and on September 30 will highlight the health and wellness benefits of hiking and spending time outdoors. Volunteers are needed to serve as greeters, hospitality and staff support from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
