Help restore an important ecological feature at Colonial Farms! Volunteers will assist the Horticulture team with the first phase of restoring the property's bioswale, a landscaped area designed to help manage stormwater and support healthy ecosystems.
During this project, volunteers will:
- Remove weeds from two designated areas
- Clear a large section of overgrown vegetation
- Help prepare the site for restoration by laying cardboard and mulch to naturally suppress future weed growth
This is the first phase of a larger restoration effort, with Part 2 scheduled for the fall.
Volunteer Requirements
- Comfortable working outdoors in summer weather
- Able to work on uneven terrain and in densely planted areas
- Able to bend, pull weeds, and perform light physical labor
- Basic plant identification is helpful, but guidance will be provided
What to Bring
- Water bottle
- Sunscreen
- Bug spray
- Gardening gloves
- Closed-toe shoes
- Long pants and a long-sleeved shirt are recommended
