Bioswale Restoration Support – Part 1 @Colonial Farms

Help restore an important ecological feature at Colonial Farms! Volunteers will assist the Horticulture team with the first phase of restoring the property's bioswale, a landscaped area designed to help manage stormwater and support healthy ecosystems.

During this project, volunteers will:

  • Remove weeds from two designated areas
  • Clear a large section of overgrown vegetation
  • Help prepare the site for restoration by laying cardboard and mulch to naturally suppress future weed growth

This is the first phase of a larger restoration effort, with Part 2 scheduled for the fall.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Comfortable working outdoors in summer weather
  • Able to work on uneven terrain and in densely planted areas
  • Able to bend, pull weeds, and perform light physical labor
  • Basic plant identification is helpful, but guidance will be provided

What to Bring

  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Gardening gloves
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Long pants and a long-sleeved shirt are recommended

Please check in at the front desk and ask for a Greenhouse Lead, who will direct you to the project site.

  • Morning: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Afternoon: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
